Now I have my highlight and shadow, the only problem is the contrast created. So I have to tone it down with an intermediate tone, sort of gray it out, otherwise it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I applied vertical stripes of Krylon Ultra Flat "Medium Brown 8147" to fill the void. The reason this is done third and not second, as in after the Sand Dune, is as stated before, I want those to be the NON-dominant colors. When using spray paint there is a certain factor of a light side spray we are all aware of, just doing this color in vertical stripes actually gets a nice dispersal on the parts you aren't even aiming for and creates a blending of the colors.
